INSIST ON INSURANCE
YOU MUST INSIST ONINSURANCE WHEN BUYING AND/OR SELLING A NINTENDO, PLAYSTATION, OR X BOX CONSOLE IF YOU ARE USING ROYAL MAIL AS A COURIER
This applies especially to the new consoles like the Nintendo Wii and the PS3
I am writing this short guide forebayers who are either selling or buying a Console (Nintendo, Playstation, X-Box) to outline the issues regardinginsurance.
SELLERS
If you are listing a console (Nintendo/PLaystation/X Box) on ebay then you should always include insurance as mandatory and not optional in your listing if you are going to use ROYAL MAIL as your courier.
This is because if theconsole goes missing in transitand youdo not have insurance, then the maximum that ROYAL MAIL will pay out is 34 if you use STANDARD PARCELS OR RECORDED DELIVERY SERVICES
As a seller, you then no longer have the console (neither does the buyer)and if a PAYPALclaim is filed by the buyerthen PAYPAL will usually take the full amount of the purchase pricefrom your paypal account, leaving you with a significant amount of money which you have lost. This can be over 300 for the new consoles
TheSTANDARD ROYAL MAIL PARCEL SERVICE offers insurance. It costs 1 for every 100 insured. All you ask for isSTANDARD PARCELS WITH ENHANCEDINSURANCE UP TO THE FINANCIAL VALUE YOU REQUIRE. You will then automaticallyreceive the proof of postage you need if the parcel goes missing to saitsify both PAYPAL and the ROYAL MAIL when they investigate
As a seller myself I have always included insurance in the postage and packingcharge and I haven't lost a console yet !
The ebay listing form gives you the opportunity to say that insurance is included in the section where you are putting in your posting costs. It is worth increasing your postage costs by these small amounts when you consider what you could lose.
You can also highlight the fact that you have INCLUDED insurance in your postage and packing costs which can only be a positive selling point.
BUYERS
The same applies to buyerswhen you are buying a console.I recommend that if the seller does not include insurance, thenyou insist on paying forinsurance and pay the extra 1to 3 to the seller, advising themwhy you are doing this and the serviceand insurance you require from ROYALMAIL.
If the parcel goes missing and it is not insured then there is a possibility that all you will receive is 32 maximum from a PAYPAL claim if the seller does not have the funds in their PAYPAL account. If you have just paid over 300 for a Nintendo Wii for example and the money cannot be recovered through paypal, you will lose over 260 ! Can you afford to take the chance?
There are many scams out there now and one is to list a fictious item such as a console andrecieve the money. The seller then takes the money out of the Paypal account and closes their ebay and paypal accounts. If you can at least prove you asked for insurance, you will have a better chance of gettingat least some of your money back
Over the 2006Christmas period, Ilost out 3 times due to parcels going missing, as the seller had not insured them. As a consequence, I now always insist on paying the extra and specifying the serviceI would like.
Strangely the parcels always get here quicker with this service as well and not one has gone missing since !
POSTAGE COSTS
Sellers charge very different amounts for posting consoles. As either a buyer or a seller, you can check out the actual posage costs by going to the ROYAL MAIL WEBSITE. Please remember that sellers do also have packing costs to consider which can be expensive, depending on the contents and size of the parcel
